DOHA - Al-Jazeera media company would take legal action against the Egyptian government. Al Jazeera accused the military government of Egypt to "a campaign of harassment and intimidation in a sustainable manner" against their journalists in the country's Pyramid.
Qatar-based company said that since the coup against President Mohamed Mursi, a number of journalists have been arrested and detained. Some of them without any charges clear or political background.
Al Jazeera office in Egypt was also raided and shut down by force. Broadcasting equipment confiscated, even those signals were blocked by the Egyptian military.
In a statement on Thursday (12/9), Al Jazeera claimed to have ordered the London-based law firm, Carter-Ruck to take the case to the International Court of Justice and the United Nations. "Al Jazeera can not allow this situation to continue. Rights of journalists to freely preach protected under international law and reinforced the UN Security Council resolution number 1738. Yet these basic rights are ignored by the new regime in Egypt," said a spokesman for Al Jazeera as diberitkan aljazeera.com, Thursday (12/9).
"Egyptian government seems determined to silence all forms of independent journalism there and allow only state-owned media to speak out," he continued. (dil / JPNN)
