Pilots fall asleep in long-haul flights to the UK

London (ANTARA News / Reuters) - Two British pilots in flight to fall asleep in the cockpit during a flight distance, and let the plane full of passengers that fly otopilot without supervision, according to the British newspaper, The Sun, edition Thursday (26/9) .

One of the Airbus 330 pilot who flew to the UK to finally wake up and immediate colleagues, but they do not know how long they were asleep. Names of the pilots and the airline is not disclosed to the newspaper.

The aircraft flew on August 13, 2013, and the pilot and co-pilot turns have 20 minutes to rest, but after flying for more than an hour, they were both asleep.

They reported the incident to the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and blamed long working hours during the summer holidays as the cause.

The Sun launch, has seen a copy of the report of the pilots. CAA announced, is legally prohibited from disclosing the details of the company or the individual who filed the report "shall incident" to them.

"Fatigue is a serious issue and needs careful supervision. Which is why, we welcome the European Union's new proposals to give regulators greater powers to oversee the system and flight fatigue risk management data," said CAA spokesman.

He added, "The UK has an excellent safety record, but we continue to strive to improve flight safety."
