United Nations, New York (Reuters) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, met with U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday to discuss the Syrian crisis.
They agreed on the importance of continued UN involvement in the Syrian chemical weapons issues and political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Ban and Obama "discussed the situation in Syria, and the United Nations agreed on the importance of an ongoing engagement on the issue of Syria's chemical weapons, as well as the importance of a political settlement and the need to prevent additional casualties," UN spokesman, Martin Nesirky, told reporters at UN Headquarters, New York.
The meeting was held at the annual high-level debate UN General Assembly, which opened at the UN headquarters on Tuesday morning, Xinhua reported.
They also "discussed the relationship between the United States and Iran, and the importance of progress on the nuclear issue, said Nesirky.
In addition, they discussed the ongoing efforts to support Somalia, Mali, Congo, UN reform and human rights, the spokesman said.
