England carrying chemical weapons Syria agreement

LONDON (AFP) - British Foreign Secretary William Hague welcomed Saturday the United States-Russia agreement to destroy chemical weapons Syria and said the priority now was to "immediately implement a full" agreement.

Hague said that the agreement, which was reached between the United States Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva, is an "important step forward" and the responsibility is now on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to stick to it.

"Need to talk to the Secretary Kerry. Britain welcomed the US-Russian treaty on chemical weapons Syria. Urgent job now is to carry it out," Hague said on Twitter.

In a message issued fuller Foreign Ministry, he said: "The priority now must be the full implementation of the agreement, to ensure the transfer of chemical weapons Syria in international supervision.

"I will confer with the Secretary of Kerry and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, including UN Security Council action.

"The onus is now on Assad's government to implement the agreement in full. International community, including Russia, the Syrian government must take responsibility for it.

"This includes doing everything we can do to stop the ongoing bloodshed in Syria, to bring all parties to agree to negotiate a political solution to the conflict.

Britain has urged the international harsh response to what the alleged chemical weapons attack in Damascus last month blamed on forces of President Bashar al-Assad.

But Prime Minister David Cameron was forced to withdraw the threats of military action, with the U.S., after lawmakers decided against attacks on Syria, according to AFP.
