Prevent Corruption, Buy China Bans Officials Mooncakes

BEIJING - Cakes and corruption apparently closely related. We may wonder, how come? Believe it or not, this is happening in China.

President Xi Jinping prohibit officials using public money to buy moon cakes, confectionary which is commonly found in the Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Cake Festival called.

The ban is part of the President Xi Jinping efforts to eradicate corruption and restore trust in the ruling Communist Party. "Any violation will be punished," said the government statement as reported by the BBC (4/9).

The government also prohibits the use of public money to fund lavish banquets and called for an end sparkling entertainment during the festival period.

Xi said that combating corruption is a priority and fired some high-ranking officials in recent months because of corruption.

This year, the Fall Festival will fall on September 19. Snacks that were prevalent in the Autumn Festival moon cakes usually filled with salted egg yolk and lotus seed sweet cream, and the form considered to symbolize the moon. (esy / JPNN)
